I don’t know if its because I’m getting older, busy, and my patience has dropped but….we really need to stop sharing on social media. I’m a huge advocate for moving in silence and not letting anyone know your every move and I feel that is lost to this generation. Not only does it make you a target for stalkers to know that you frequent the same café everyday but it leads to other foolishness like opinions.
Let me explain.
It would be one thing if people took what someone said and thought ‘well I don’t feel that way so I’m going to keep believing in what I want’ or ‘this person makes an excellent choice I will keep that in mind’…..but alas with this generation of ‘let’s follow the leader’ I don’t see that type of critical thinking. Now I’m not some boomer on my last leg, I’m literally a woman about to enter her mid thirties who has been around before the technology boom, during it, and won’t be around to see it end.
Let’s take the Will Smith and Chris Rock incident. Like everything else this was blown to the highest proportions. Not only was it just a slap but Will Smith’s cookie cutter image was destroyed in that slap. It was a week long of 24/7 exposure of endless jokes, stories, memes, and asking people all over what they thought about the situation. If that wasn’t painful enough you had his ‘peers’ condemning his behavior as if he was a child needed to be reigned in. It was unnecessary and annoying.
I personally and I have to stress that I PERSONALLY don’t think that he should have slapped Chris. Especially not for Jada. That woman is something else but I will reserve my opinions on her and they are not opinions from tabloids but from what came out of her own mouth that makes me feel the way that I do.
But to my point it was social media that fueled the fire to get the Academy to rethink their position on the matter and give him a 10 year ban from attending the Oscars. He can be nominated and win an award but he’s not allowed to attend for 10 years. That’s insane to me. I have never heard of such foolery in my life. Then to follow up with their decision his deals started to drop…..all to be this noble man for his wife, who didn’t even stop him from walking up there, so she wouldn’t be uncomfortable. I personally have never heard of Jada having this condition and I doubt that a lot of people have as well…unless your following celebrities like that. It was a joke about a movie of a strong woman in the military…..it’s not like he said she would be the face for a cancer foundation…. then I would say that the slap was necessary.
That brings me to the next point that I want to bring up. Jokes. Remember Married with Children and all the jokes that Al Bundy would say….he would be crucified today for them. I personally found them funny and I’m sure the women who auditioned, read the script, and cashed their checks found it funny as well.
Not everything is about you. Not everything is a reflection of YOUR life. I’m here to tell you in the sweetest way that I possibly can but no one cares about you. The world doesn’t care about your feelings, or if you don’t want to work, what your sexuality is, who you sleep with, what you think about when you sleep….having that kind of access to your every being is not healthy. That is something that I hope this generation figures out sooner rather than later.
We are so consumed with what the next person is thinking that I feel WE are forgetting to feel. Surely you don’t need to go on social media to come to a conclusion about your life, to ask if you should go to a certain school, should you go for a certain job, or if you should break up with your significant other. Those are things that only YOU can answer for cause those strangers that you think are your friends won’t be there when you really need them. Like in the flesh. Those 500 people who like your posts won’t be in the room to pick you up when you fall, wipe your tears while you cry, or give you that encouragement that you need. That is why its important to go out and actually meet people so you can cultivate those life long friendships, have someone to call and meet up.
Social Media and the News will be our downfall. I encourage you to look at who owns the platform that you are reading and watching your news on and decide for yourself if they are doing you any favors in your life. Be 1000000% sure that you are not being dragged down a dangerous path that is leaving you alienated and in turn spewing hate and nonsense on YOUR social media.
